Who are we? Change makers.

We shift capital towards justice

At NorthStar Asset Management, we believe investing is never neutral.

For more than 30 years, we’ve helped clients put their money to work for both financial growth and social justice.

Led by women from historically marginalized communities, our team blends deep expertise with bold activism. We don’t just manage portfolios — we challenge corporate power, uplift communities, and push markets toward a more equitable future.

Every choice we make is grounded in our six pillars: racial equity, gender equity, economic equality, environmental justice, human rights, and corporate governance. With NorthStar, your capital aligns fully with your values— and your values gain a powerful platform for change.

OUR ROOTS & RISE

NorthStar was founded in 1990 with a clear conviction: investing must serve people, not just profits.

We began with public equity and fixed income management — and quickly expanded as our vision grew. Shareholder activist, community investing, and charitable giving became core to our process, redefining what active portfolio management could be.

Our roots are in challenging a financial system we believe too often causes harm. Our rise is in proving that capital, aligned with values, can drive accountability, uplift communities, and spark systemic change.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED.

What makes NorthStar different from other investment firms?

NorthStar integrates activism, equity, and justice into every part of portfolio management — from shareholder advocacy to outside investments — and we’ve been doing it for more than 30 years.

How does NorthStar align my portfolio with my values?

We start by listening. Then we use our Six Pillars — racial equity, gender equity, human rights, environmental justice, economic equality, and corporate governance — as a framework to ensure your investments reflect both your goals and your values.

Do you work with both individuals and institutions?

Yes. We guide individuals and families on everything from budgeting to generational wealth planning, and we partner with foundations, nonprofits, and other institutional investors to amplify systemic change.

What does shareholder activism actually look like in practice?

We file and lead shareholder proposals, engage company executives directly, and mobilize investors to press for stronger corporate accountability. To date, we’ve filed hundreds of proposals across industries to drive real-world change.

Do I need to leave my existing firm to invest with you?

You don’t have to leave your current firm or family office to partner with NorthStar. Many clients choose us to bring activism and justice-centered investing into their existing portfolios. We can coordinate directly with your advisors to integrate our investment strategies, ensuring your wealth reflects your values while preserving the relationships that matter to you.

How do I know if NorthStar is the right fit for me?

If you believe wealth can be a tool for justice, and you want to see financial returns alongside social and environmental impact, then NorthStar may be the right partner. We welcome a conversation to explore your goals and values.

Lets love our community

A NEW LOOK, A LASTING STAND

A cutting-edge vision deserves a brand that’s just as forward-thinking. Where shareholder activism is a positive force for change — now with a visual identity that reflects that power.

In 2025, NorthStar unveiled a refreshed identity that reflects both our legacy and our future. The new design is a fresh expression of who we are — layered, like stained glass, to symbolize transparency, light, and the intersectional nature of our Six Pillars.
We are unafraid to show what we stand for: an activist approach to investing that challenges power and amplifies justice.
Our new branding is more than a stylistic decision — it’s a way to boldly signal our values, challenge the status quo, and lead with unmistakable clarity.

Layers of Meaning

Color overlays act as a lens — shaping focus, drawing attention, and reminding us that meaningful change often begins with a shift in perspective.

Strength in Connection

Overlapping transparencies reflect how nothing stands alone. Each layer builds on the next — like threads woven together into fabric, individual actions compound into broader change.

The Power of Red

A deliberate accent, used sparingly, red calls out what matters most. It mirrors the way we highlight governance issues—bold, urgent, and impossible to ignore. Like the protest signs that demand change.

The re-design of our branding was lovingly created by DoodleDo Design Studio, and the results exceeded our wildest expectations.
